building homes,

building hope

Since 1989, Truman Habitat has worked in partnership with the community to create new, affordable opportunities for homeownership. In that time, over 100 new and rehabilitated houses have become homes for families in Eastern Jackson County.

new home construction and rehabilitated homes

Rising housing costs create barriers for families striving to build financial security, intergenerational wealth, and self-reliance through homeownership. At Truman Habitat, we bring together staff, volunteers, and funding resources to help families achieve these goals.

We build new homes to detailed architectural plans, local codes, and Habitat for Humanity's rigorous standards of Accessibility, Durability, and Sustainability. When homes are purchased by or donated to us, we rehabilitate them with those same standards in mind. All of the work— whether performed by our dedicated volunteers or our contractor partners— is closely supervised by our experienced Construction Team. Partner families work alongside our team throughout the process, contributing their time and effort. Once completed, they purchase their homes at an affordable price, the proceeds of which help fund future builds.

Every Truman Habitat home represents more than just shelter—it’s a foundation for stability, a source of hope for future generations, and a lasting investment in our communities. We believe everyone deserves a safe, affordable place to live, and we invite you to join us in making that vision a reality.

homes in the Englewood neighborhood

Truman Habitat is implementing a multi-year plan to build six to eight homes in the Englewood neighborhood of Independence, MO. This major neighborhood revitalization initiative is the result of civic and community collaboration over the past three years.

Truman Habitat has recently solidified a new home model for the new homes in Englewood. Recently, Truman Habitat broke ground on our first home in historic Englewood. Truman Habitat recently updated our new home designs for Englewood and beyond. The homes will have three to four bedrooms and two bathrooms, meet the newest Energy Star guidelines, and feature key accessibility features such as zero-entry, and accessible bathrooms and master bedrooms.

together, build community

Rock the Block brings together dozens of volunteers to support home preservation and community improvement projects in focus neighborhoods across Eastern Jackson County.

The impact is striking but it's more than just curb appeal that is restored. Rock the Block helps restore pride in neighborhoods and creates community connections along the way.

volunteers and crew

Utilizing volunteers in our builds helps lower the labor cost of building a new home. All kinds of groups volunteer at our home builds, including two groups that volunteer on Wednesdays and Thursdays every week. We are extremely blessed by these dedicated construction volunteers. Thank you!

your impact

“I had an opportunity to build a custom cabinet for a recent project house. While the project was a simple one for me, the impact was huge. I got to meet the future homeowner and seeing the look on his face when I introduced myself was priceless. As a tradesperson, you're used to seeing people smile when they first see your finished work; this smile was truly special and the highlight of my career!”
