Homeownership Program
Our home ownership program empowers people to buy a Habitat house with a 0% interest mortgage rate. To qualify for this program, you must exhibit:
- Need – the current living situation is unaffordable, temporary, overcrowded, unsafe, etc.
- Ability to pay – Household income for potential applicants must be in the 25-60% income level bracket or below to qualify for a mortgage (see chart below)
- Willingness to partner – agree to complete 350 hours of “sweat equity” or volunteer work
- Complete our Master Homeowner Program

Home Preservation Program
Eligibility:
To qualify for any of our HPP programs, the following criteria must be met:
- Owner occupied home
- Current on mortgage payments
- Current on property taxes
- Current on utility bills
- Possess homeowner insurance
- Prior assistance from THHFH on property disqualifies applicant from receiving further funds for 5 years
- Applicants must be willing to complete as least 10 hours of sweat equity
- Meet income requirements of 60-80% area median income (AMI) based on HUD household size (table below)

Lee’s Summit Critical Home Repair
Are you in need of critical or minor home repairs? In partnership with the City of Lee’s Summit, Truman Habitat is accepting applications from eligible Lee’s Summit homeowners. Homeowners must be at 80% AMI or less and meet all eligibility requirements listed above. Repairs include:
- Roof repair or replacement
- Plumbing
- Electrical
- HVAC
- Code violations
- Dangerous tree removal
- Exterior repairs and painting
- Aging in Place modifications
- Ramps, railings, grab bars
Applications are considered complete when all supporting documentation is submitted.
Independence Power and Light and Spire Energy Weatherization
Attention Independence P&L and Spire homeowners! With the help of IPL and Spire, Truman Habitat is seeking eligible homeowners* to apply for weatherization improvements to help lower your utility bills and ensure that everyone has a decent place to live. Homeowners must be at 80% AMI or less and meet all eligibility requirements listed above.Weatherization improvements include:
- Furnace repair or replacement
- Water heater repair or replacement
- Central air conditioning repair or replacement
- Weatherstripping
- Attic insulation
- Repairs to reduce air drafts
*must be current IPL and Spire customer
Applications are considered complete when all supporting documentation is submitted.
Raytown Exterior Home Repair
Through a partnership with the City of Raytown,* Truman Habitat is helping Raytown homeowners to complete limited exterior repairs. Raytown homeowners must meet income requirements of 60% AMI or less and meet all eligibility requirements listed above. Exterior repairs include:
- Roof repair or replacement
- Exterior code violations
- Dangerous tree removal
- Exterior painting and repairs
- Driveway or sidewalk repair

Aging In Place
Aging in Place is a movement to not only enable people to age safely in their homes, but also to create an environment where older adults can continue to learn and contribute, develop relationships with people of all ages, maintain a healthy lifestyle, live independently, and receive healthcare and support services that are community-based.
Roughly 20% of the residents in Jackson County are 60 years or older and 18.5% of this population lives in poverty. Truman Heritage Habitat works with elderly residents to upgrade or restore their homes so they can continue living in their houses, be independent, and contribute to their communities.
